Infection Control occupies a pivotal position in health care. The concept is not new, but the attitude towards this subject of vital importance was rather casual and Lukewarm in this part of the world, hardly approaching international standard. There were no guidelines, rules, regulation and policies in the form of infection control manual for dealing with infection in the health care setups as well as in the community was available.

There was only one Infection Control Committee in one major hospital before the establishment of Infection Control Society, Pakistan in September 1994. The society is a non-government organization that runs on no profit no loss basis. The main purpose of Infection Control Society of Pakistan is to stimulate and increase awareness among health care workers in particular and generate a lot of public interest in general vis-à-vis preservation of health and safety methods.

The society from its very inception launched a campaign against infection and organized more than 40 seminars and workshops throughout the country simultaneously, arranged 3 international series of seminars, in the major cities of Pakistan in order to visualize the importance of Infection Control. The Infection Control Society, Pakistan took the following initiatives to overcome the problem of infection in Pakistan.
